Governor Deal Issues Proclamation for Aviation Appreciation MonthOctober 15th, 2014
SAVANNAH, GA – In conjunction with the annual meeting of the Georgia Airports Association, Governor Nathan Deal signed a proclamation announcing that October 2014 is Aviation Appreciation Month in Georgia. In the proclamation, Governor Deal encourages our state’s entrepreneurs and businesses to use the power of Georgia’s strong aviation sector to help drive economic growth in Georgia and beyond. “Having Governor Deal proclaim October as Aviation Appreciation Month is a tremendous step for airports and aviation in Georgia, said Colette Edmisten, GAA President. “Our industry contributes greatly to the economy of Georgia and this proclamation only solidifies the impact aviation has on the state.”
Currently, Georgia is home to 104 publicly owned airports that connect Georgia’s citizens and businesses to the global economy. Of these 104, 95 are general aviation facilities and 9 provide commercial airline service in addition to general aviation. Georgia’s airports contribute significantly to the state’s economy, supporting over 470,000 jobs with a payroll of over $17.8 billion and $62.6 billion in statewide economic impact.
