OPERATIONAL ADVISORY - SAV #10-10
We plan to close Rwy 10-28 between 2000 hrs this evening, (March 8th) through 0600 hrs local tomorrow morning (March 9th) to allow for maintenance of the BAK 12/14 aircraft arresting gear (see attached diagram). 10-28.pdf
03/05/10 OPERATIONAL ADVISORY - SAV #09-10  - REVISED
The SAV Combat Readiness Training Center will become operational again this weekend after 6 months of ramp reconstruction.  Twenty Two (22) F-15's are scheduled to begin training operations Monday, March 6, 2010 for a two week period.  We plan to close Taxiway C, east of Taxiway B (see attached diagram) during this period.  GA aircraft operations may be impacted from time to time during high volume training windows.  Touch and go operations and pattern work in particular.  You are reminded that inbound F-15's under certain emergency situations may engage the BAK-14 arresting gear (cable) on runway 10-28 upon landing.  This usually closes that runway for 20-30 minutes.  As always, we are proud to be a CRTC airport and welcome the Air Force and ANG units back.  The minor inconveniences that come with them are well worth it. CRTC RTA.pdf
03/05/10 OPERATIONAL ADVISORY - SAV #09-10
We will be experiencing increased military fighter jet operations between Saturday, March 6, 2010 and Saturday, March 20, 2010 due to a visiting unit at the CRTC.

OPERATIONAL ADVISORY - SAV #08-10
As expected, the attached TFR was issued associated with the VIP visit tomorrow.  Heightened flight restrictions will impact noncommercial flight operations.

Gulfsteam should contact SAV ATCT directly for additional information.
The FAA recommends that all aircraft operators check NOTAMS frequently for possible changes to this TFR prior to operations within this region.  SAV #08-10.pdf

Runway 10-28  - We plan to close Runway 10-28 on Sunday, November 1, 2009 at 2000 hours local until Monday, November 2, 2009 at 0600 hours local (see attached) for lighting maintenance.  10-28 Closure.pdf
10/27/09 OPERATIONAL ADVISORY - SAV #20-09
The contractor is scheduled to begin work tomorrow on the TW GA-4 and GA 5 improvement project.  This project will add paved shoulders and edge lighting to these TW's and will add a turn radius on GA 4. (See attached diagram).  Weather permitting, the contractor will begin work on GA-5 in the morning.  The contractor will move to GA-4 when complete with GA-5.  NOTAMS will be issued as needed.

Note: We plan to work with ATCT-SAV to make GA-4 and GA-5 controlled movement areas once we complete this project. Attached Diagram
8/26/09 OPERATIONAL ADVISORY - SAV #17-09
The project to extend TW A 900 ft to the north has begun.  This extension will allow for access to developable land to the north.  TW Connector A-1 and TW A north of TW Connector A-2 will be closed during this project.  Other than these closures this project will have minimal impact on operations here.  We expect this project to last approximately 6 months.  Please see the attached diagram showing the project impact area.

The runway safety area project is scheduled to wrap up this week with the exception of a few punch list items which may require a periodic RW/TW closures.  Daily RW closures associated with this project are scheduled to be discontinued this week. Attached Diagram
7/7/09 OPERATIONAL ADVISORY - SAV #14-09
The Air National Guard has advised us that they will begin working on the CRTC apron rehab project today.  This project is scheduled to take at least six months to complete.  During this period C TW east of the C-3 TW Connector will be closed frequently (See attached diagram).  NOTAMS will be issued to reflect the actual closures.

As a reminder, these advisories are for planning and informational purposes only.  Dates, times and locations are subject to change. (Attached Diagram)
6/24/09 OPERATIONAL ADVISORY - SAV #13-09

Runways 9/27 and 18/36 will be officially redesignated on July 2, 2009.  As you have been advised, runway 9/27 becomes 10/28 and runway 18/36 becomes 1/19. (See attached diagram).  The July 2nd edition of the AFD and Flight Procedures will reflect this change.  All new approach plates will reflect this change.  New Jepessen charts will reflect this change.  The physical changes will begin at 2000hrs local on July 1st.  RW 9/27 will be closed and the markings and signage will be changed.  We expect to re-open as RW 10/28 NLT 0600 hrs on July 2nd.  We will then close 18/36 and make those changes.  We should be complete with everything by 0600 July 3rd.  The physical change schedule is subject to change based on weather conditions.  There is a remote possibility that we start and don't get finished in which case we could end up with partial or no markings for a short period of time.  We have consulted with the FAA on these possibilities and have FAA approved operational plans in place in the event this happens.  Additionally, ATCT-SAV will provide extended coverage July 2nd to help in the event there is any confusion.  As we have stated in the past, these changes are necessary for us to remain in compliance with FAA standards.  Please see the excerpt below for an explanation.

Explanation -
Runway designations do change over time. Because the magnetic poles slowly drift on the Earth's surface, but the runways stay fixed, the magnetic bearing will change. Depending on the airport location and how much drift takes place, it may be necessary over time to change the runway designation. As runways are designated with headings rounded to the nearest 10 degrees, this will affect some runways more than others. For example, if the magnetic heading of a runway is 276 degrees, it would be designated Runway 28. If the magnetic heading changed upwards by 5 degrees, the Runway would still be Runway 28. If on the other hand the original magnetic heading was 284 (Runway 28), and the heading increased by only two degrees to 286, the runway should become Runway 29. Because the drift itself is quite slow, runway designation changes are relatively uncommon, and not welcomed, as they do require an accompanying change in a wide range of aeronautical charts and descriptive documents.  5/12/09  OPERATIONAL ADVISORY - SAV  #08-09
Attached you will find a diagram showing the new directional signage associated with D Taxiway.  Please be familiar with this information if you use these areas. (Attached Diagram)
5/01/09 OPERATIONAL ADVISORY - SAV  #07-09
1. Three signs have been installed to identify Taxilane GA 4 and Taxilane GA 5 as shown on the attached diagram and embedded photos.  Additionally, taxiway edge reflectors have been installed along the entire length of each.  Both of these are interim measures which will remain until such time as we add a full taxiway edge lighting system in these areas along with a full signage package.  GA 4 will remain closed from the Sheltair ramp west, up to but not including the intersection of the JCB hangar ramp.   GA 5 is open from TWA  to the west side of the Sheltair ramp connector. GA 5 remains the only access route to Sheltair at this time. Pilots are reminded that both open sections of GA4 and GA5 remain non-movement areas and as such are not controlled by SAV ATCT.  Pilots should continue to be aware of other aircraft movements  while operating in these areas. Please reference OPERATIONAL ADVISORY - SAV #04-09 for previously published information associated with GA 4 and GA 5.

2. We are scheduled to open TW D and TW Connector D-1 on Thursday May 7th ( See attached diagram and embedded photo) which will coincide with the effective date of the new AFD.  This edition will reflect the new TW information.  TW D and the D-1 connector will be movement areas and as such they will be controlled by ATCT-SAV during their hours of operation.  Pilots taxiing to and from the south GA ramp areas, to include GA 2 and GA 3, are to use this new taxiway as opposed to taxiing along the west end of the GA ramp as has been the practice. (Attached Diagram)
3/20/09 Operational Advisory - SAV #04-09

Effective 1030hrs local on Friday, March 20, 2009, Sheltair - SAV was approved to open for business as our second FBO.  Sheltair is located in the southwest quadrant of the airfield.  Initially, access to Sheltair will be via taxilane GA5 as shown on the attached diagram.  Access via GA4 to Sheltair is not available as of yet.  Both GA4 and GA5 are presently non movement areas and as such are not controlled by ATCT, however, they will soon become movement areas as early as next week, A NOTAM will be issued once that becomes effective. Pilots should exercise caution with regard to the movement of other aircraft in these areas. Directional signage for GA4 and GA5 has not been installed yet so pilots should refer to the AFD to identify the locations. Neither GA4 nor GA5 have centerline or edge lighting.  TW edge reflectors will be installed in the near future. Both GA4 and GA5 have been constructed for FAA Design Group II aircraft and as such they are 35' wide.  Pilots are reminded that they are required to contact the ATCT prior to entering ATW from GA5 and CTW from GA4. The initial hours of operation for Sheltair -SAV will be 0800hrs local - 2000hrs local.  These hours will expand in the near future.  The contact information for Sheltair - SAV is as follows:

1). We are planning on closing RW 1-19 tomorrow Sept 10th between 0800 and 1600hrs local.  This closure is necessary to allow the contractor to work on punch list items associated with the Runway Safety area project which is nearing completion.

2). We are planning on closing RW 10-28 between 2000hrs and 0600hrs local daily between Sept 10th and Sept 12th for painting.  We have entered into an agreement with the FAA to conduct conspicuity testing on the RW 10 markings.  Type 1 reflective beads will be applied to some of the markings and type 3 reflective beads will be applied to the rest in the test area.  The FAA will be soliciting input from pilots as to their being able to distinguish between the two types of beads.  If the type 3 beads significantly improve the visibility of the markings, the FAA may mandate their usage at airports across the country.  The test area will be from the threshold of RW 10  up to TW A. (See attached diagram) The test period is expected to last 60 days.  Attached Diagram

8/26/09
OPERATIONAL ADVISORY - SAV #18-09
We are expecting another round of increased small bird (killdeer and grackle) activity and flocking over the course of the next several days (Aug 26 - 31) along the shoulders of RW 10/28 (See diagram). The birds are attracted to worms in the new sod placed along the RW as part of the RW Safety Area Improvement Project.  Airfield Operations personnel will be on site to monitor the situation and to respond to areas of concern.  Pilots are advised to report bird activity to ATCT as soon as they see it.  Pilots should exercise extreme caution.  Expect periodic closures of RW 10/28 if the situation warrants it.  Attached Diagram
