Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport, along with various emergency agencies in the area, completed a full-scale airport emergency plan exercise today, October 22, 2026. This full-scale exercise was conducted in accordance with Federal Aviation Administration regulations that require an airport operator to conduct live drills on airport property every three years.
The exercise provided an opportunity for multiple agencies from across the region to work collectively with airport fire and rescue crews to enhance response skills for aviation mass-casualty incidents. Thank you to all the various organizations and volunteers that made today`s drill possible.
This is a drill. Today, October 22, from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM. You may notice a heavy presence of emergency response vehicles and activity on the north side of the airfield. Regular commercial air travel or activities within the terminal will NOT be affected or delayed by the exercise. Area residents and visitors should expect to see emergency vehicles and other official traffic engaged in the exercise, and controlled fire and smoke may also be visible.

• When meeting arriving passengers, meeters and greeters are encouraged to use the Airport Cell Phone Lot. When your party arrives and has picked up their baggage from baggage claim, they can call to be picked up curbside.
