COVID – 19 Update

The safety of our passengers, staff, and tenants continues to be a top priority of Savannah/Hilton Head International. SAV is continuously monitoring the coronavirus disease (COVID- 19) outbreak and remains in contact with our partners and stakeholders at the local, state, and national levels including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Georgia Department of Health. The airport has implemented the following key changes in the terminal building:

  • SOCIAL DISTANCING MARKERS: Ground markings and signs will give guidance on six-foot distancing at ticket counters, boarding gates, concessions counters, and other common areas
  • CLEANING AND SANITATION: SAV has implemented an infectious disease protocol and is using disinfection applications and products on surfaces, hand rails and elevator buttons, and increased the number of hand sanitizer stations located throughout the terminal

Travel Restrictions:
There are no restrictions for travel to, from, or within Georgia. If you leave your home, you must follow public health safety measures and local laws. If you test positive for COVID-19, you must follow home isolation protocol.

Your home state or country may have restrictions in place. Find out what applies to you before you travel.

If you are traveling from Georgia to another state, please be aware of the public heath safety measure and local laws there.

Airline Updates:
The airlines require passengers to wear face masks during check-in, boarding, in flight, and when deplaning. For the most accurate and up to date information about airline policies and flight status, please check with your airline.

Operational Updates:
Many of the shops and restaurants at SAV are making changes to their operations. Some shops and restaurants may be closed even when flights are operating.

The USO Airport location is observing limited hours of operation until further notice in order to maintain safe environments and avoid unnecessary risk of exposure.

The Airport Ambassador volunteer program is temporarily suspended until further notice.

Transportation Security Administration Updates:
Travelers with a state driver’s license that expired beginning on March 1, 2020, and who are not able to renew at their state driver’s license agency may still use it as acceptable identification at the checkpoint. TSA will accept expired driver’s licenses a year after the expiration date, plus 60 days after the duration of the COVID-19 national emergency.

TSA is allowing passengers to bring hand sanitizer up to 12oz in carry-on bags until further notice. Passengers can expect that these containers will need to be screened separately, which may add time to the checkpoint screening experience.
