SAVANNAH, Georgia. April 29, 2016 — Allegiant (NASDAQ: ALGT) today begins new, nonstop service between Washington D.C. / Baltimore and Savannah / Hilton Head. “We’re very excited to give Baltimore-area travelers the opportunity to enjoy Savannah and the Hilton Head area,” said Jude Bricker, Allegiant chief operating officer. “We’re also pleased to give Savannah-area residents the opportunity to visit the nation’s capital.”
The new service will operate twice weekly and expand on the routes Allegiant currently operates to Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport (SAV). With this new route, Allegiant service will total six routes to Savannah including Akron / Canton, Ohio; Columbus, Ohio; Pittsburgh; Indianapolis and Cincinnati. The company began service to Savannah / Hilton Head in April 2015. The new route will bring more than 32,000 additional visitors each year to the area. “With the start of year-round service to BWI, Allegiant is filling a huge void in affordable airfare options to the Washington D.C. / Baltimore region from Savannah,” said Gregory B. Kelly, Savannah Airport Commission executive director. “There is no doubt that Savannah, Hilton Head and the Low Country will enjoy many new visitors as a result of this service and that the low cost airfares will provide a great opportunity for those in our region to visit our country’s capital very affordably.”
“We believe that this new Allegiant service to Savannah from the Washington D.C. / Baltimore-area is going to be extremely popular,” said Joseph Marinelli, president of Visit Savannah. “Folks can be visiting our beautiful historic destination and our Tybee Island beaches in less time than it takes to travel to the Eastern Shore. The cost-savings and flight options give travelers even more affordable flight options.”
