SAVANNAH, GA – Savannah/Hilton Head International, along with various emergency agencies in the area, will hold a Full-Scale Airport Emergency Plan Exercise on Thursday, May 29, 2014 at 9:00 a.m. This full-scale exercise is conducted in accordance with Federal Aviation Administration regulations that require an airport operator to conduct live drills on airport property every three years. The exercise will provide the opportunity for various emergency agencies in the area to work collectively to enhance response skills for aviation mass casualty incidents.

The drill will simulate the crash of a Boeing MD88 that slides off the runway after a hard landing, carrying 70 passengers and crew. Passenger announcements will be made in the airport terminal indicating that the disaster drill is underway. The drill will have no impact on routine airport operations.

Savannah/Hilton Head International welcomes the media to view the drill, which will take place on the airfield northeast of the terminal, south of Gulfstream Road.  Parking is available only in the designated area along Albert “Bucky” Yellin Drive. Media wishing to attend should arrive no later than 8:40 a.m. From this location you will be escorted to the crash site to observe the drill.
